Cayuse, Inc. Launches Subawards.com for Web-based Collaboration on Federal Grant Proposals | April 9, 2008

Free Web Application Offers Online Solution for Preparing and Sharing Subaward Proposals

Portland, Oregon: Cayuse, Inc., a provider of Web-based grant proposal solutions for research organizations, has launched Subawards.com to enable grant applicants to prepare the subcontract portion of federal grant proposals in a free Web application. On Subawards.com, proposal developers can complete their subcontracting budgets online, with a full set of online budget calculations and error-checking validations.

Institutional collaboration on federal grant proposals and awards is increasing, and a large percentage of grant applications contain at least one subcontractor, or 'subaward.' Until now, sharing information between proposal originators and their subcontractors required manual data re-entry and financial calculations.

"Subawards.com presents a publicly available Software as a Service (SaaS) approach to federal grant applications that reduces redundant effort between collaborators," said Chris Harker, President of Cayuse, Inc. "This application offers automation and productivity features that improve the process of sharing subaward budgets versus other publicly available methods."

Subawards.com, is designed specifically to enhance productivity and improve collaboration between existing Cayuse customers and their subcontractor network. Registering for a free account provides a Web-based version of the federal subcontracting form, the SF424 R&R Budget. The Subawards.com version of the R&R Budget form offers online budget calculations, automatic form-filling, real-time error checking, and many other productivity features, all within a Web browser window.

Users of Subawards.com can send their completed subaward proposal to Cayuse customer institutions for one-click import into the prime proposal, which is then submitted electronically to Grants.gov. Subcontractors can also save and print a full PDF version of the proposal for internal use, whether they collaborate with existing Cayuse customer sites or not.

Subawards.com is available April 9, 2008, providing two full months to use the Web application to collaborate on proposals for the June 5, 2008 NIH deadline. "We’re looking forward to inviting our subcontractor network to Subawards.com," said Patricia McNulty, Director of Research Funding at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. "They will appreciate the intuitive layout and error-checking of the Cayuse budget forms. The ability to import budgets into prime proposals will save time and headaches for our research administrators who currently have to enter the data manually."

With planned enhancements to Subawards.com, Cayuse intends to further improve automated data sharing between institutions collaborating on federal grant proposals. Since Subawards.com conforms to government XML data standards, Cayuse plans to share the XML schema of the subaward export file with other institutions in a future release. This will allow import of subaward proposals directly into institutional or third-party commercial proposal development systems, offering the same efficiencies enjoyed by Cayuse customers.
